RHY.THM - Ostinato

RHY.THM is yet another collaboration with music composer Pim van den Heuvel where we explore the relationships between visual elements and music structures.

This first edition, called Ostinato (which in music language means a continually repeated musical phrase or rhythm) we decided to focus on the idea of patterns.

—
From Pim: An ostinato is a continuation of itself, the melody you hear consists of 4 notes. Throughout this composition you'll hear it in various shapes, not only in the main melody but also in the accompaniment at various speeds.

From Germán: After getting the musical layers from Pim, I wanted to connect them with other types of patterns I was interested in, from adding visual patterns inspired in printing techniques, to the cyclical motion of planetary movements. I also found great inspiration from old love stories about the endless dance between the Sun and the Moon.
Concept and Art Direction

The goal was to play with the idea of patterns, starting from the more visible executions like using halftone patterns inspired in printing techniques, to the less obvious ones like using the cyclical patterns of planetary movements as inspiration for the entire sequence, or telling a love story between the Sun and the Moon, a narrative pattern that repeats itself every day.
